Pediatric Oral Health Examinations and Cleanings
Dental exams and cleanings are important for a young child’s development. By receiving regular oral checkups every 6 months, it allows the dentist to be able to monitor how your child’s teeth are coming in, or if there are any underlying issues that can be resolved sooner rather than later.
The oral examinations involve a complete checkup of your child’s teeth, detection of any underlying oral problems, and monitoring of teeth spacing. The exams are non invasive and easy for your child. Cleanings are essential because it prevents decay and cavities from forming.
Pediatric dental x-rays are important in detecting any underlying issues that may be present. The x-rays produce the lowest amount of radiation and are completely safe. The majority of children have dental x-rays taken between the ages of 4-6. Most children start losing their baby teeth around 5 and getting their adult teeth about the age of 6. X-rays help to play an important role in helping the dentist evaluate the growth of those adult teeth, to identify bite problems, and to determine if the teeth are healthy and strong including any cavities.
It is important that children have regular cleanings and x-rays because it will help to maintain a healthy, full smile.
